What is professional coaching?

The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines coaching as:partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential, which is particularly important in today’s uncertain and complex environment. Coaches honor the client as the expert in his or her life and work and believe every client is creative, resourceful and whole.Standing on this foundation, the coach’s responsibility is to:

  • Discover, clarify, and align with what the client wants to achieve
  • Encourage client self-discovery
  • Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies
  • Hold the client responsible and accountableCareers with Jo for career coaching, career development, career planning, outplacement, job search and job interview and cv strategies, career recovery, life coaching, mentoring, career conversation workshops, career development workshops, master career coach workshops, executive coaching and more. Jo has been working in the careers and coaching fields since 2002 and is an internationally recognised Professional Credentialed Coach (PCC) with ICF, and a Professional Member of the Career Development Association NZ. This process helps clients dramatically improve their outlook on work and life, while improving their leadership skills and unlocking their potential.

Why use a professional Career Coach?

Anyone can call themselves a ‘career coach’. You do not have to be a professional trained coach to market yourself as a coach or a career coach. In fact, many ‘career coaches’ are not trained coaches at all. Which is fine – as long as you understand the difference.A professional career coach (as in trained and credentialed Coach) is someone who has completed and passed a significant number of milestones – including considerable coach training hours, client contact hours, oral and written exams – with external examiners – and also who adhers to professional coach standards and ethics.

What does being a ‘coach’ mean for you as my client?

  1. It means the coaching conversation is at the heart of our work. A real coaching conversation. The coaching conversation almost feels like magic sometimes – it brings clarity, insight, and new perspectives.
  2. It means the coaching process is centred around you. You are the expert on you, and the coaching relationship is very much a partnership.
  3. It means the coaching process is tailored – for you. It’s not about the process – it is about you and is the right fit for you.
